歷史上的今天，一九四四六月六日，第二次世界大戰進入轉折，盟軍這一天選擇在法國諾曼弟海灘登陸，大舉反攻，重歸幾乎被德國全部佔領的歐洲大陸。
為什麼登陸作戰日稱 D-Day，一說法國人說 D 代表下船、離開船隻或車輛的過程的意思，二是根據國防部的說法，羅伯特舒爾茨將軍說，兩棲作戰的“出發日期”縮寫為 D-Day。 因此，D-Day 將用於這次行動的第一天，以及戰爭期間的其他日子。
海上登陸行動於當地時間早上 6 點 30 分開始，黎明剛過，目標是五個代號海灘，一個接一個：奧馬哈、猶他、黃金、劍、朱諾。該行動還包括內陸行動，包括夜間在德國戰略地點降落傘和美國陸軍遊騎兵攀登懸崖以摧毀德國槍支陣地。大約 11,000 架盟軍飛機、7,000 艘船隻和數千輛其他車輛參與了入侵。
D日當天，數萬名士兵同時登陸諾曼底的五個海灘。此次行動經過一年多的凖備，最初定於6月5日，但是暴風雨導致登陸時間推遲了24小時。
諾曼底登陸當日凌晨，盟軍空降部隊降落到敵人後方；數千艘船聚集在諾曼底海岸，凖備發起攻擊。儘管德國軍方領導人預計會有襲擊，但他們認為最初的襲擊只是用來轉移注意力。
襲擊前幾周，一項欺騙計劃讓德軍認為主要的登錄戰會發生在位於稍遠位置的沿海地區，這幫助英國軍隊在一片代號為「Gold」（黃金）的海灘站穩了腳跟。
另外，加拿大軍隊在朱諾海灘（Juno）登陸，英國軍隊還在寶劍海灘（Sword）登陸。美國軍隊也登陸了最西邊的猶他海灘（Utah），並且沒有遭遇大規模傷亡。
但是在奧馬哈海灘（Omaha），美國軍隊傷亡慘重。美國海軍對德國防禦工事的密集轟炸沒有效果，而且美軍遇到了一支精銳的德國部隊。
當時現場的情形是，剛過午夜，美國和英國的三支空降師起飛攻擊位於側翼的海灘，總兵力超過23000名。無數的海軍艦艇和登陸艇聚集在英吉利海峽中間被稱為皮卡迪利圓環的區域。
早上6時30分開始，在海軍的掩護下，第一批5個師的突擊部隊被運送到各自要攻擊的海灘。登陸行動花了一整天。截至當天午夜，盟軍已經鞏固了各自的灘頭陣地，並從黃金海灘、朱諾海灘、寶劍海灘以及猶他海灘向內陸推進。
英國、美國和加拿大盟軍集合海陸空三軍力量，橫渡英吉利海峽，在諾曼第完成人類歷史上規模最大的海上登陸，衝破了希特勒構築多年的大西洋防線，亦敲響了第三帝國的喪鐘。
無獨有偶的同一天，諾曼第登陸五十年之後，北美一座國際機場的旅客出口，我們迎來了從中國大陸飛赴美國的女兒，這一天，是丫頭登上自由世界的 D-Day。自此，全家人熬過數年分別，終於團聚，我們完成了離開共產中國，回家並安居自由美國的第一步。
D-Day 的意義，不光在於取得戰爭勝利的第一天，也預示著自由民主生活的開啟日。又過了三十多年，幸福美滿的生活在繼續，D-Day 是個裏程碑，難以忘記的大日子。

Really nice boot. Took about 6 weeks to arrive on the north east coast of the US. I did have a dent on the toe like others reviewers have shown and there is no insignia on the bottom which is why i choose this seller over others. So that was disappointing.
